Does Quickbooks for Mac operate the same way as Quickbooks Pro for rental properties? I have 11 units (5 properties) and am looking for a good accounting solution.

What happens when a property has multiple owners? Do you list each owner and repeat the property for each owner as a job?

Michelle,

It all depends on how your QuickBooks is setup. You have to set up a workflow and procedure and then double check your reports. There are so many ways you can handle a situation. I would have to look at your file to determine what the best way is after analyzing your QuickBooks file.

If I just write a check to the owner for their income, then the 1099 would be wrong. Shouldn't I put in a line for gross rent collected, minus expenses such as management fee, repairs, etc?

Quicken integrates with Turbo Tax for sure. If you are tracking multiple rental properties, you will have to try and see if it sync with each property schedule E.

Gita, what software could help me the most in keeping up with my rental properties? I have receipts, but would like a tax software that I can put the information in weekly by categories and then not have to go through the receipts again at tax time. I use turbo tax for my personal taxes, so I would like something that can download to turbo tax.
