Learn how to set up a proper company file to manage your company finances.
The independent salesperson is one of the oldest professions around. In order to be a successful salesperson, you need to be knowledgeable, personable, and able to track the money that you make. If you use QuickBooks to set up a proper company file with the correct chart of accounts, tracking your business revenue and expenses is easy.
We want to make it even easier by offering a free PDF with a QuickBooks chart of accounts for an independent sales agent.
Salespeople traditionally are paid in commission, so a sales agency needs an income account titled Commission Income. It may also be a good idea to have a Commission Adjustments Income account that can be used to make any adjustments, in case of payment errors or returns.
Expenses for sales agents are usually based around travel. Be sure to have expense accounts for car, bank services, meals, hotel costs, parking and toll fees, and professional fees. This will be a good start for tracking your expenses.
Remember that each company is different, though, and as such, each chart of accounts will be unique. If you need help with your accounting at any point, feel free to reach out to our team of experts at Fast Trac Consulting.
